Vice President Joel Malina on freedom of political opinion and Cornell faculty

Joel M. Malina, Vice President for University Relations, issued the following statement:

“Cornell University is committed to academic excellence and a core belief that learning flourishes in an environment where diverse ideas are presented and debated without hindrance. Cornell does not consider a person’s political stance in its hiring practices. We first seek to hire the most exceptional faculty without regard to personal or political beliefs or ideological perspectives. We also rely on various processes, including our reviews for tenure and promotion, to underscore that our faculty are fairly and responsibly exposing our students to the full range of thinking on any given subject.”
