Cornell to serve up Big Red Cheddar and dairy information at New York Farm Day

WASHINGTON – Cheese fans rejoice!

The media are welcome to hear how Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences it helping New York state to become a leading producer of quality cheese at this year’s New York Farm Day, Wednesday, Sept. 14 in the Kennedy Caucus Room on Capitol Hill at 6 p.m.

Guests will hear from industry experts with the Harvest New York program – a Cornell Cooperative Extension program spurring agricultural economic development – about the artisan cheese movement, how Cornell is helping to increase cheese production in upstate New York, and how Cornell is educating and training dairy specialists throughout the U.S. Samples of Cornell’s award-winning Big Red Cheddar will be served. There will also be a cheese-making demonstration at the table.

“Farm Day is one of the best days of the year on Capitol Hill, when farmers and other agricultural producers from around New York come down to Washington and showcase to Congress some of the best Made-in-New York food and drinks,” said Senator Gillibrand, the first Senator from New York to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in nearly 40 years.

“It’s also an important opportunity for New York’s agricultural community to have their voices heard about the issues that affect them, from milk prices to crop insurance. I’m proud to represent New York’s incredible farmers and producers on the Senate Agriculture Committee, and I encourage all of my colleagues to taste our delicious Made-in-New York products!”
